6th Went to Henderson to day I found the City once more in a state of
wild excitement a company of Negro Soldiers had been landed there the even- '
ing before and had com enced to fortify themsehres on the river bank Poor Ky
it is not aiough that she should suffer all the Horrors of this war but our
people must be placed under Negro rule so much for Loyalty to the Union _
these were the first negro soldiers I have ever seen and I hope they will be
the last if these negroes are permitted to stay there they will soon have
all the negro men in this and the adjoining counties in camp with them
7th I went to the Walnut Bottom Church this morning Elder Thurman
preached the Funeral of J E Cheatham took dinner as W'S Coopers and came
home in the evening I learned that-g the gratifying intelligence this
evening that our negro protectors had left us for parts unknown and I
trust they are gone to stay

issued his orders for a conscription of all the Able Bodied white men .

both Parties arrested and conscripted by both one takes our negroes the
other our horses and food and both sides say we must gf fight for them
this is certainly a hard case and god alone knows what is to become of us I
