it seems that the Confederates have at last been forced to abandon their
Capitol some think this will soon end the rebellion while others seem to
think diferently but no one can tell as yet what the Rebels will do
5th This was a wet disagreeable morning I striped Tobacco untill
dimer and rolled Logs in the evening _
6th I wasrolling Logs again to day and managed by hard work to
finish my new ground
7th About home the most of the day I Loaded my wagon with Tobacco '
for Henry Cooper
8th Went to Henderson to day mr Fees for Hauling to day Amounted

9th This was a wet disagreeable Sunday I was at Church notwith-

this morning there seemed to be a general spirit of rejoicing among the
People at the early prospect of Peace I saw Confederate and Union officers
eating and drinking together and was allmost led to believe that the war
was over when the news came that President Lincoln was murdered everithing
was brought to a sudden stand still faces that a few minutes before were
smiling now looked sad and anxious though few in the place had any love ·
