18th Sunday At church Elder Thurman preached we had a
light shower of rain to day but not enough to cool the Parched earth
or do the crops much good
19th At work in Tobacco to day

2lst At work about the Mill as it has been running to day we
had a fine shower of rain this evening
22nd I was at the Funeral of Marion Hancock to day Elder McGown
preached the funeral sermon Poor Marion I knew him from a boy
Kind hearted and generous to a fault and as I sttood and looked upon
his Mortal remains calmly sleeping in death 0 how rejoiced I was
to hear that he quit this world in peace that when death came he was
ready for the summons and gave to his friends an evidence that will
cheer them through this life for oh how cheering to us poor mortals
is the hope that when life with its trials troubles are over that we will
meet again where Parting will be no more
23rd At work about the Farm and Mill &c to day
. 24th Went to Henderson to day in Company with John Bourke I
remained to see the Black Crook at night xd the Old adage again
a fool and his money &c
25th Sunday I was at Church to day Elder McGown Preached
26th Toping Tobacco &c to day
27th The Mill was running again to day and I have been removing
lumber &c
28th Burke finished all the logs and made his arrangements to
move his mill to day and I am not sorry as I have been bothered with
his hands for about 3 months
29th At work about the farm &c
