3lst To day ends the month ofxbyzl: July this has been a busy
month with the long wet spell in the spring had left yhe ground in
a bad condition and the last of June and nearly the whole of the present
Month has been twob dry for the crops I have managed to get my crop
worked verry well and the rains at the close of the month coming just
in time my Prospects now are flattering for a fine crop of Tobacco and
a fair crop of corn We have reason evry day of our lives to be thank-
full to the great giver of every good and perfect gift for his goodness
and kindness to us we have during this spring and summer followed
both old and young to the place appointed for all living yet we have
be en spared we have seen much by which we may profit and if from
actual life we do not learn a profitable lesson it is out own fault
August lst - Sunday This is a pleasant and beautifull Sabbath
Morning I was at Church this morning but was neither edified or
benefitted by the sermon When a man with only Brains enough for a
common clod hopper attempts in the pulpit to ridicule all the cherished
Ideas and hopes of the true christian when a man does away with the
Operation of the Spirit of god upon the heart when by arguments that are
` unworthy a common sturnp speaker a man attempts to teach people their
dury to go it is time that the true christian should with draw himself from
them and leave them alone to work out their salvation by Water (Adieu
Dr Hevren)
