January lst 1871 — The Month and Year came in on Sunday
and there was no Church in the Neighborhood so I have been about Home
nearly a].l day trying to be sick This Has been a beautifull day
2nd I went to the Walnut Bottom in company with G B Martin
They County Surveyor R S Easton was at Mrs Crutchfields and we
Commenced Processioning the Lands of A G Crutchfield Dec
3d I was Processioning the Crutchfield Lands again to day
4th We Finished our Job of Processioning the Lands of A G
Crutchfield to day and I am not sorry as it has been a heavy Job
, We that is myself & R Utley marked around over 700 acres of crooked
lines in the last 3 days for which I received $9
5th About the Farm &c I settled with Mauzy for his Hogs and
I owe him a Ballance on his Corn of $48
6th I was looking up my Cattle on the Anderson Place to day
7th Went to Church Meeting this morning Elder Lacy preached
Went to the Lodge at night and was Installed as V G of this Lodge for
the Present term
8th Sunday I was at Church this morning Elder Lacy preached
I was verry unwell this evening and had to go to bed
9th I went in company with Thos Smith to the Diamond Island
Band a cow Hunting We found the Cow but lost her again in the Cane
10th Went to Henderson to day in Company with Thos S Smith
The Road from my House to Henderson is better than I ever saw it in
the winter as they are dusty and Level The Late Cold Dry Spell has
left them as Hard allmost as a Turnpike I gave A S Nunn my note for
$150 and took up the note I traded off on the Davises and Let P Latta
have the Davis note
llth I sold a Butcher by the name of Smith the Cow I Bought of
P Latta for $40 and I helped him to drive her as far as Mrs Floyds
Went with B F Martin and G G Lilly to see Robert Haskins in the
evening and found him verry sick
12th I went to C Bells to day I bought of him 4 Steers for $200
and left them on the Manion Place
