carried on the work laid down, passed a satifactory examination, and
presented an acceptable thesis. The advanced degree may also be taken
in three years after obtaining the degree of B. M. E., provided the stu-
dent has been engaged during the period of three years in practical
engineering work, passes a satisfactory examination at the College, and
presents an acceptable thesis.
At least two years’ notice must be given to the Faculty that post-graduate work is being
done. and the work must be approved y the Faculty.
FRESHMAN YEAR.

(ez) Recitations on the forms of wood-working tools, and the cutting and
peculiarities of timber. (6) Lectures on the operation of the various
forms of wood-working machinery. (c) Lectures on pattern-making,
moulding, and casting.
Mechanical and Free-Hand Drawz'1zg—Twenty—six weeks, six hours
per week, and ten weeks, ten hours per week. (a) This drawing includes
free-hand sketches, drawing from copies and models, using parts of
machines in the Mechanical Laboratories as models. (6) Free-hand
lettering. (0) Exercises in tinting and shading. (d) Tracing.
Shop-work-—Thirty-six weeks, twelve hours per week. (a) Bench
work in wood, including exercises in the following operations : Planing,
sawing, rabbeting, plowing, notching, splicing, mortising, tenoning,
dovetailing, framing, paneling, and the general use of carpenters’ tools.
(6) VVood-turning, involving the various principles of lathe-work in wood.
l (c) Pattern-making, which gives the student discipline in the construc-
tion of patterns for foundry work.   Foundry work, including the
various operations of moulding, core-making, and the melting of iron
and brass.

of tempering and annealing steel. (6) Lectures on modern machine-
shop practice.

six weeks, five hours per week. (tz) Drawing the parts of machines and
complete machines to scale. (6) Geometric and Descriptive Geometry
problems. (c) Design of machine details.

in iron and steel forging. (6) Exercises in vise-work in metal. (c)
General macl1ine work, including screw-cutting, drilling, planing, and
