What's Number Two in the nation and Number One in the hearts of all Kentucky Wildcat fans? The unanimous choice is the University of Kentucky Wildcat cheerleaders!
The 1979-80 squad finished second behind Indiana State in the National Collegiate Cheerleading Championship held in Los Angeles.
The competition was broadcast nationwide last spring on network television.
The UK cheerleaders are practicing a "new look" for the 1980 basketball season. Because of Southeastern Conference regulations restricting cheerleader routines, the Wildcats will be building smaller pyramids but creating more
entertaining and crowd-pleasing routines.
New this year to the squad is the UK Wildcat, Ralph McBarron, a senior majoring in marketing from Louisville.
This season's spirited squad includes eight persons from last year's championship team, plus six newcomers.
