KENTUCKY VS. FLORIDA STATE IN THE MIDEAST FIRST ROUND - BOWLING GREEN, KY. A. Diddle Arena at Wes- tern Kentucky University in Bowling Green. FSU openend scoring on a jumper by Elvis Rolle, but the Wildcats ran off 10-consecu- tive points and that set the tone of the game as UK continued the blitz to lead 49-27 at halftime. UK's All-American Kyle Macy scored 14-first half points, while 7-1 freshman Sam Bowie controlled the boards with nine. UK outrebounded the Seminoles by a whopping 34-13 margin but shot a cool 42.5 per cent from the field. Both teams lost two players each on personal fouls and were further hampered when FSU had three and UK with two players with four each. Kentucky's bench strength was never more evident when the Wildcat subs outscored FSU's bench by a 38-8 margin. UK placed five in double-figures - Macy 16, Fred Cowan and LaVon Williams 14, Bowie 13 and Jay Shidler 10, while Charles Hurt, Derrick Hord and Chuck Verderber had eight, Tom Heitz 4 and Dirk Min- niefield 2. 32
