SCCR 1

Office of the President
May 5, 1998

Members, Board of Trustees:

AMENDMENT OF CODE OF STUDENT CONDUCT

Recommendation: that the Board of Trustees approve the following revisions of the Code Of
Student Conduct: Rules, Procedures, Rights and Responsibilities Governing Non-Academic
Relationships, Article I--the University Judicial System, Section I.

Section 1.21, add as an additional disciplinary offense under the Code: Violation of
             the University's policy on alcohol.

Section 1.87, add as an additional sanction under the Code: A monetary penalty,
public or community service and/or compulsory attendance at educational
programs, may be imposed in appropriate circumstances.

Background: At its last meeting, the Board of Trustees accepted a report relating to the use of
alcohol on the campus. These proposed Code Of Student Conduct revisions will assist the
Office of the Dean of Students in the enforcement of alcohol-related offenses. The first revision
makes violation of the University's Administrative Regulation on alcohol an offense under the
Code. The second revision adds additional sanctions in appropriate circumstances: a monetary
penalty, public or community service and/or compulsory attendance at educational programs.
The proposed revisions were drafted by the Commitee on Student Code Revision and have been
recommended by the President.
