*As expected the Kentucky Wildcats had little trouble with visiting Baylor, routing the winless Bears 80-46. UK led 40-17 at the hall and coach Joe B. Hall used his bench frequently. Ten Wildcats played for at least 10 minutes while no one played more than 30. Baylor coach Jim Haller said UK "has the makings of one of the greatest teams America has ever had." Kyle Macy led UK with 17 points while Derrick Hord added 11 and Jay Shidler 10. Sam Bowie collected 12 rebounds.
The Kentucky basketball team put it all together with a record-breaking 126-81 bombing of South Carolina, the worst defeat ever handed retiring South Carolina Coach Frank • McGuire. "I'm not sure we can improve on our game." Joe Hall said afterwards. UK hit 49 of 80 shots on the night and led 61-39 at the half. Kyle Macy was one of six Wildcats in double figures with 24 points. Sam Bowie scored 23, Dwight Anderson 19, Derrick Hord 18 and Jay Shidler 10. Dirk Minniefield delighted the packed crowd at Rupp Arena with eight assists in 15 minutes.
*UK football Coach Fran Curci announced the signing of seven in-state football players to a conference letter-of-intent. Curci did not announce his out-of-state signees. The seven instate signees were Jeff Smith of Washington County, William Burse of Hopkinsville, James Hasty and Ron Knott of Louisville, Choo Choo Lee of Paducah, Robert Mullins of Paintsville and Eddie Simmons of Richmond. It was also learned that UK signed Cameron Jacobs of Florida.

?Kentucky's inability to hit from outside against die North Carolina zone enabled the Tar Heels to move from a 42-40 halftime lead to a 59-50 advantage after six minutes of the second half. The lead then became 73-58 as Carolina went to 4-0 and UK 0-2 on the year. Jack Givens led UK with 24 points while Larry Johnson scored 18 and Rick Robey 14. Mitch Kupchek and Walter Davis led the Tar Heels with 24 and 19 points, respectively.
*Kentucky center Danny Hall, a 6-11 center from Betsy Layne, will move into the Wildcat starting lineup this week against Miami of Ohio, replacing Mike Phillips, who has been in a
slump in the Cats' first two games. Rick Robey and Jack Givens retain their starting positions at forward while Truman Claytor and Larry-Johnson will continue to start in the backcourt.
*With the Goose cooking and Rick rolling, UK mauled Miami of Ohio 91-69 before a packed house at Memorial Coliseum as UK snapped a two-game losing streak to get their first win of die season. Jack Givens hit 12 of 16 and poured in 31 points while Robey hit 11 of 12 shots for 30 points. Robey's 91.7 percent shoting from the field broke Bob Guyette's record of 90.4. Truman Claytor added 12 points.

For the first time since Adolph Rupp took over the UK helm in 1930, UK lost their over opener, a stunning 73-61 loss to a Temple team led by Hal (King) Lear and Guy Rodgers before 11.000 fans in Memorial Coliseum. The Owls led all the way for their third straight win. Junior Ray Mills led UK with 14 points. Phil Grawemeyer scored 11 and sophomore Vern Hatton 10. Rodgers scored 24 points for the visitors.
After UK's upset loss to Temple, San Francisco has the top rating all itself. UK dropped to 12th in AP, sixth in UP.
Jerry Bird swept under the basket with 19 seconds left to hit a crip shot which gave UK 71-69 win over a classy DePaul team before 11,000 fans at Memorial Coliseum. The score was tied ten times and the lead changed hands ten times. Jerry Bird led UK with 16 points. Bob Burrow and Gerry Calvert scored 12 and Phil Grawemeyer 11. Ray Meyer's DePaul team was led by Ron Sobieszyk's 24 points.
'Bob O'Brien missed a tying foul shot in the closing seconds and UK held on to down undefeated Maryland 62-61 at College Park. UK trailed 60-57 with five seconds left after leading by 12 in the first half. Gerry Calvert led UK ith 19 points, sophomore Vern Hatton scored 15, Jerry Bird 12. Bob Kessler scored 25 points for Maryland.
