Minutes of the Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of
Kentucky, Tuesday, December 13, 1977.



       The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees met in regular statutory
session on Tuesday, December 13, 1977, at 3:00 o'clock (Eastern Standard
Time), in the Board Room on the 18th floor of the Patterson Office Tower on
the Lexington campus with the following merrbers answering the call of the
roll: Mr. William B. Sturgill, Chairman, Professor Michael Adelstein,
Mr. William R. Black, Mr. L. D. Gorman, Mrs. Betty Carol Clark, Mr.
Richard E. Cooper, Governor Albert Benjamin Chandler, Mr. George W.
Griffin, Mr. James Newberry, Mrs. Sally Hermansdorfer, Mr. Thomas B.
Kessinger, Mr. Zirl A. Palmer, Mr. Frank Ramsey, Mr. Homer W. Ramsey,
Professor Paul G. Sears, Dr. David A. Hull, and Dr. John R. Woodyard.
Absent from the meeting were Mr. Albert G. Clay and Mr. John R. Gaines.
The University administration was represented by President Otis A. Singletary;
Vice Presidents Lewis W. Cochran, Robert Zumwinkle, Peter P. Bosomworth,
Raymond R. Hornback, Jack C. Blanton, and Donald B. Clapp; Dr. Wimberly
C. Royster, Dean of the Graduate School and Coordinator of Research; Mr.
John Darsie, Legal Counsel; and Dr. Charles Wethington, Assistant Vice
President of Community College System representing Vice President Wall.


       A. Meeting Opened

       Mr. Sturgill called the meeting to order at 3:00 o'clock. A moment
of silence was observed in memory of Coach Rupp, whose funeral had been
held just prior to the meeting of the Board. The invocation was pronounced
by Mrs. Clark, and the Secretary called the roll, reporting 17 members
present. The meeting was then declared officially open for the conduct of
business at 3:05 o'clock.


       B. Minutes Approved

       On motion duly made, seconded and carried the reading of the Minutes
of the October 19, 1977 meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of
Trustees was dispensed with and the Minutes were approved as published.


       C. President's Report to the Trustees (PR 1)

       After reviewing some of the items in his monthly report to the Trustees,
President Singletary recommended that the report be accepted and filed.
Without objection it was so ordered.
