The breaks of the game continued
to go against the Wildcats on their
e
southern trip. After losing a
series to the University of
Tennessee, the Blue and White went
to Nashville where the Vdnderfcllt
Commodores took two contests. In the
first game with the Vandy outfit the
southern sluggers hit freely and plied
up "a 'score of 'eighteen runs, while the
best the Cats could garner was three
tallies. The second "was more of a
ball game. After eleven innings of
leading the Commodores drove
in the necessary run, winning
The contests with Tennessee were
won on the breaks of the game; a
home run by a Volunteer player in the
last inning with two out, two on and
two strikes defeated the Wildcats by
a lead of two. The last game with the
Vols was lost on hard luck playing of
Kentucky. The first game with the
Nashville organization was just a
walkaway, but in the second contest
hard luck defeated the Blue and White
after two extra frames.
One thing noticeable on the trip
was the improved hitting of the players. Muth garnered more hits than
usual, Slomer hit them hard and frequent and the others were not Blow
in getting more safeties. The squad
continued to miscue, however, and it
was this phase of the game that assisted them in going down to defeat.
In every game at least several errors
were made by the Cats.
