the home of Robert McGary. (l) A record of this meeting stated that ". . . on
the 25th day of May, one thousand eight hundred and seven, in pursuance of an
act of the general assembly entitled an act for the division of Henderson Cou ty,
approved on the 9th day of December, one thousand eight hundred and six . . . a
commission was produced from his Excellencyythe Governor Christopher Greenup,
Governor of the Com onwealth of Kentucky, bearing date the 29th of December, one
thousand eight hundred and six, directed to Richard Davis, Raphel Weir, Tho as
Anderson, Thomas Adams, Stephen Ashby, Isham Browder, James Logan, and Joseph Berry,
Esqrs., appointing them justices of the peace in the county of Hopkins . . . .
Ans then a court was holdin (sic) for the said cou ty of Hopkins." (2) After he
had subscribed to the required oath, Samuel Woodson was appointed county court ~
clerhaand the court im ediately proceeded with organization and administration
of the county's government. (5) By a vote of the newly organized court, Richard
Davis was duly elected to act as/presiding judge o£~the+eourt (4), and the fol- {
