CLASSES: There have been some questions _
about library employees taking university
courses. The general policy is that any- UNIVERSITY QF KENTUCKY
one wishing to take a course which is LIBRARIES
related to his job may do so without hav-
ing to make up the time away from the job. November 9, 1973 No. 25
Employees who wish to take courses of
A general interest which have no particular
bearing on their jobs will be asked to take such courses during lunch
hours or will be asked to make up the time. The question of taking
classes and which are considered relevant are first taken to the De-
partment Head and if the employee is dissatisfied with the answer
given, he should take the matter to the Director's Office. In any _
case, both the Department Head and the Director's Office should be
notified if you plan to take a course, even an evening course, so that
this information can be added to your personnel record. This is for
your benefit.
NEW STAFF MEMBER: Ms. Patricia Watson joined the Reference Department
on Monday. Pat comes to Kentucky with an AB from Peabody and has
worked at the Circulation desk there. If you haven't met Pat yet,
stop by the Reference desk and get to know her.

CHRISTMAS PARTY RESERVATIONS: The letter you received giving the de-
tails of the Christmas Party indicated in one place that reservations
and checks for the party should be returned by November 30. It should

dent's Room of the Student Center. Dr. Fred G. Kilgour, Director of
the Ohio College Library Center (OCLC) will speak on the topic of
”On-Line Librarianship". All are invited so please plan to attend.

learn a few things about the library that you didn't know before. It

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: This note comes from Nancy Ray:"Looking at this
#year's faculty from my perspective as affirmative—Ection officer, it
appears we realized a gain of black and women faculty. We hired 252
new faculty, 91 female. We hired 167 faculty for the Lexington cam-
pus, 47 female. (This excludes librarians and administrative faculty)
In 1972 women were 19.2% of the total comparable faculty; for 1973 the
proportion is 21.2%. If we include the librarians and administrative
faculty, women comprise 23% of the total facu1ty."
