 PREFACE

The publication herewith presented, an index to the probate cases
filed in Camp County, Texas, is No.52 of the Texas series of counties.
The publication is intended to meet the requirements of day-to-day usage
by the officials of the county, attorneys, businessmen, and other citi—
zens who have occasion to consult probate case records for the preper
conduct of their affairs. The publication may be used by historians and
genealogists to obtain references to unpublished source material.

_The names of the deceased persons, minors, and other principals are
arranged alphabetically, with reference to filing date of the case and
the case number. Differentiation between probate cases assigned dupli-
cate numbers is accomplished by the addition of a letter following the
case number, except that where one of the duplicated numbers was used
for a lunacy case, the prefix "L" is used. The following numbers in
series 1 to 1252 were not used as case numbers: 2, 5, 6, 10-15, 15, 16,
18, 25, 25—29, 51, 55, 55—57, 40, 57, 58, 65, 65—69, 71-75, 78, 85, 128,
152, 155, 158, 160, 169, 175, 199, 226, 256, 251, 520, 550, 557, 561,
405, 458, 669, 705, 727, 752, 764—766, 768-965, 977. y

In Camp County all probate records are in the custody of the county
clerk. Case papers are filed in numerical sequence in plainly marked
steel file drawers in the county clerk's office and vault. Cases num-
bered l to 499 are filed in 27 steel file drawers in the basement vault.

' Those numbered from 500 to 1252 are filed in 12 steel file drawers in
the county clerk's'office.

Since the transfer of territory from one county to another has af~
fected probate jurisdiction and has determined the county in which the
probate case should have been filed, a map and table of territorial'
changes are included herein. Notations concerning present location and
availability of records pertinent to Camp County follow:
