Formerly the Lexington and Big Sandy Railway Company, Eastern Division, the railroad became the Ashland Coal and Iron Railway Company in 1881. The company was conveyed to the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company in 1933.
The collection consists of an Ashland Coal and Iron Railway Company mines ledger which records company accounts of miner's wages, staff salaries, coal sales, rent, and supplies and equipment.
