The Kentucky Network, which was awarded UK broadcast rights in June, 1980, for the next three years, began broadcasting on April 3, 1978, as the first and only full-time network in the state to provide a comprehensive statewide news, sports, weather, and farm programming on a 7-day-a-week, 12-month-a-year basis.
With ownership of the broadcast rights, D.J. Everett, a 1969 UK graduate, will coordinate the sports network.
Synonymous with the Wildcats is sportscaster Cawood Ledford. Ledford is entering his 15th year with the UK network and his 28th year covering UK sports.
Assisting Ledford is Ralph Hacker, president and general manager of radio station WVLK in Lexington, who begins his seventh year as color commentator.
UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY TELEVISION
The UK television Network enters its 10th year with WAVE-TV of Louisville as the coordinator.
The network will handle nine delayed telecasts of Wildcat games from Rupp Arena (East Tennessee, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Florida, Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama, and Vanderbilt) and five live games (Ohio State, at Indiana, two games in the UKIT, and Notre Dame from Louisville).
Handling play-by-play and color for the telecasts are Randy Waters, sports director of WAVE-TV in Louisville, and Rob Bromley, sports director of WKYT-TV in Lexington.
