The Paul Willis papers contain Willis' work-related files during his time at the University of Kentucky.
Paul Willis, a 1963 graduate of U.K., served as a library director for 41 years throughout the Southeast. He worked as a cataloger at the Library of Congress before beginning his masters program in library science. In 1966 at U.K., he began as a Circulation Librarian at the Law Library before becoming the University Law Librarian. He then served as Director of Libraries from 1973 to 2003. After this he moved to South Carolina and served as the University of South Carolina's Dean of Libraries from 2004 until 2007. During his career at the University of Kentucky he created the Information Alliance consortium, planned the construction of the William T. Young Library, and expanded its collection and services. He was a member of ASERL (Association of Southeastern Research Libraries), SOLINET, and the Association of Research Libraries, for which he served on the Board of Directors for three years.
The Paul Willis papers contain Willis' work-related files during his time at the University of Kentucky, dating from 1966 through 2003. The papers contain Willis' teaching material, professional development, correspondence, and his administrative work. The Paul Willis papers demonstrate his efforts to teach and enrich the lives of the students at the University; further develop the library system at the University, and his work on the completion of the William T. Young Library.
The Administration Series contains information about the committees, projects, and budgets Paul Willis was involved in during his career at the University of Kentucky. This includes the library budget and planning committee which assisted in the planning of the yearly budget and goals for the University of Kentucky Libraries, the development of the University Libraries, speeches given, Willis' calendar, grants, and the planning, building, and development of the William T. Young Library.
