A VACUUM CTEANERS NEEDED BY PRESERVATIGT GNHTIEE
The Preservation Gnumittee is considering ways to keep books and shelves ·
` dusted. The easiest way would be to have severallvacuum cleaners for this
purpose. They muld be housed in Administrative Services and loaned as
needed. If any staff members have vacuum cleaners ttul: would be suitable
for dusting books and shelves, and would like to donate them to the Library,

` A special 1982 conference, sponsored jointly by the Southeastern Library  
Association and the Kentucky Library Association, will be held in louisville,  
Kentucky, November 10-13. Registration for the conference and the Exhibits {
will be at the Carmonwealth Convention Center. _ i
. Meetings will be held at both the Galt House and the Hyatt Regency. Guest 1
A speakers will include: Judith Krug, director of the AIA Office of Intellectual
` Freedom; Richard Schmidt, legal counsel for the American Society of Newspaper
Editors; Cal 'Thomas, vice president of conmunications for the Moral Majority;
Betty Friedan, feminist leader and author; and Alfred Slote, author of
juvenile fiction and informational books.
Three pre~conferences have also been planned. "Space Planning and Practical
Design for Librarians" will be held November 8 and 9, and "Librarians as .
Authors" November 9. "Reference Online: a two track workshop" will be held
from 8:30-2%+5 on November 10th.
KENTUCKY WRITERS (DNFERENCE
The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives and the Kentucky Arts
Council are sponsoring the First Annual Kentucky Writers Conference,
November 19-20, 1982, at Frankfort, Kentucky. All conference events will
take place at Kentucky State University.
The Kentucky Writers Conference is conceived as an annual event to bring to-
gether writers and those interested in writing in Kentucky for workshops,
readings, and discussions about writing. Each year program participants
will be chosen primarily from writers who recently have published substantially.
A national figure will also be invited to speak.
