Dean Kirwan introduced to the Faculty Mr. John Anggelis. Chariman
of a Committee of Lamp and Cross. which had made an investigation of
the advisability of establishing an honor system on the campus. Mr.
Anggelis explained that his committee was recommending that an honor
system be set up in an effort to build up a tradition on the campus
of no cheating in examinations. The Faculty discussed various phases
of the honor system and President Donovan stated that. in View of the
general sentiment concerning cheating. the committee should proceed
with its plans and be prepared to present a more concrete proposal
to the Faculty next fall.

Dean Terrell presented for the College of Engineering the following
new courses. which were approved by the Faculty:

Civil Engineering 221:2.- , - Advanced Soil Mechanics (3 each) 1. 11
advanced study of the engineering properties of soils. dealing directly
with flow of water through soils. stresses in earth masses. shearing
resistance and conditions of failure. clay mineral content and its
effect. airphoto classification of soils. and the application of these
theories to the design of engineering structures. Lecture. one hour;
laboratory. four hours a week.

Prerequisite: Civ. Eng. 107.

Mechanical Engineering 136 - Internal Combustion Engine
Laboratory. (1) 1. 11
A study of magnetos, distributors. fuel ignition. timing. carburetors.
oil systems, and performance tests on engines. Aeronautical labora—
tory, three hours.
Prerequisites or concurrent: Mech. Eng. 108. Mech. Eng. 113a

Mechanical Engineering 214a,b. - Special Problems in Aeronautical
Engineering. (3eachy 1. 11
Advanced course in aircraft power plant engineering dealing with special
problems in reciprocating engines, gas turbines. and jet propulsion.
Aeronautical laboratory. nine hours a week.

Prerequisite; Approval of the Head of the Department of Mechanical
Engineering.

President Donovan made a special request that the deans of the
colleges urge the members of the faculties and their graduating
seniors to attend the Commencement and to reach the assembly place by
7 o'clock.
