Biography/History

The Labor union newspaper transcripts were made as part of a Works Progress Administration project.

Scope and Content

The collection contains transcripts made by the Works Progress Administration from Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio, newspapers concerning the union movement and labor problems. The newspapers used include the Covington Journal, Daily Commonwealth (Covington), Kentucky Post (Covington), Western Citizen (Paris), Courier-Journal (Louisville), The Enquirer (Cincinnati), and Cincinnati Gazette. Additionally, the collection includes the following Lexington, Kentucky, newspapers: Observer and Reporter; Lexington Morning Transcript; Lexington Leader; Lexington Herald; Lexington Daily Press; Kentucky Statesman; and Kentucky Gazette. Other materials include CIO literature, charts showing statistics on local unions, and documents listing outcomes for Kentucky gubernatorial races from various election years.
