The newspapers used include the Covington Journal, Daily Commonwealth (Covington), Kentucky Post (Covington), Western Citizen (Paris), Courier-Journal (Louisville), The Enquirer (Cincinnati), and Cincinnati Gazette. Additionally, the collection includes the following Lexington, Kentucky, newspapers: Observer and Reporter; Lexington Morning Transcript; Lexington Leader; Lexington Herald; Lexington Daily Press; Kentucky Statesman; and Kentucky Gazette. Other materials include CIO literature, charts showing statistics on local unions, and documents listing outcomes for Kentucky gubernatorial races from various election years. Historical note The Works Progress Administration was a New Deal agency that operated from 1935 until 1943. It employed millions of unemployed workers to build public works, such as bridges, dams, public buildings, or roads.
