The University of Kentucky, through its Department of University Ex- 3
tension, brings to Kentuckians the benefit of its instructional and research T
programs. The state of Kentucky is the campus of the University of
Kentucky.
Services of the Extension Department include classes either, credit or
non-credit, taught in any community where a sufficient enrollment is as-
sured; home study courses of both college and high school level are avail-
able by mail. Speakers for special occasions and in specialized fields,
forums, clinics, short courses, publications, library service, films and slides
are made available to organizations, groups, and individuals. Music and
speech festivals for motivating high school pupils in those fields are -
provided.
The Department of University Extension operates through bureaus as
follows:
l. Bureau of Correspondence and Class Study.-Offers college courses .
in Botany, Economics, Education, English, French, Geography, German,
Greek, Italian, Latin, Hygiene, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science,
, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Spanish; courses in high school
subjects; and a course in Citizenship for Aliens.
2. Bureau of Club and Community Service.-Furnishes club programs
and package library materials as well as helps for organizations and in-
dividuals. Offers single lectures or a series of lectures; speakers for teach-
er’s meetings, commencement addresses, memorial and dedication exercises,
civic and women’s clubs, etc. Acts as a clearing house for inquiries of the A
people of the state in general matters.
3. Bureau of School Relations.-Provides assistance in debating and
other forensic activities to the schools, and encouragement of vocal and in-
strumental music. This service is given chiefly through the Kentucky High
School Forensic League and the Kentucky High School Music Festival.
4. Bureau of Audio-Visual Materials.-—Furnishes educational motion
picture films and other visual aids service to schools and clubs.
5. University of Kentucky Press.—The Department of University Ex-
tension acts as the distributor for the publications of the University of Ken-
tucky Press. A list of these publications will be sent on request-.
