ject or subjects. In evaluating such training, the University of Kentucky
_ - will depend largely on The Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Exper- `
" iences in the Armed Forces of the American Council on Education, and on {
proficiency examinations. ‘
The procedure for applying for credit for military training taken in Q
other than accredited colleges and universities is as follows. Army, Navy, `
Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Personnel still on active duty should apply [
directly to the University of Kentucky, using USAFI Form N0. 47 (Revised).
This form will be widely distributed through military channels, and made E
available to men and women in service both in the United States and in §
overseas theatres of operation. It may also be obtained by writing the I
Armed Forces Institute, Madison 3, Wisconsin.
The Veteran of World War II no longer on active duty may apply by
writing directly to the University inclosing with his letter a certified copy
of the official Separation Form used by the branch of the service in which
he served. {
A The mere filing of an application will not, of course, insure that any i
credit will be allowed. Generally speaking, credit will be granted only when _
there is clezmevidence of proficiency in a specific subject or subjects or- `
dinarily included in college of university curricula. The applicant may be l
asked to establish proficiency in a particular subject or his general educa- l
tional level by taking examinations.
Applications for Benefits under Public Laws 16 and 346
Under Public Law 16, provision has been made for vocational education
or training to overcome handicaps suffered as a result of service-connected
` disability. In order to qualify for such rehabilitation aid, the veteran must
have sustained an injury or other disability which will qualify him for a
pension. A veteran who is interested in applying for such training should
seek information from the nearest office of the Veterans’ Administration,
and obtain a letter indicating eligibility.
Public Law 346 (GI Bill) provides educational benefits for all veterans
properly discharged and with a minimum period of service. Information
about Public Law 346 may be obtained from any office of the Veterans’
Administration. Applications for aid under Public Law 346 are made by
the veteran on a special form (V.A. Form 1953) prepared by the Veterans"
Administration. This application form may be obtained from the Veterans’ L
Administration Office.
Veterans eligible for benefits under provisions of Public Law 346 (GI
Bill) who plan to enter the University of Kentucky for the first time or
those who plan to re-enter after having been in training elsewhere, should
contact the nearest V. A. Office prior to registration date for the purpose
of obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility and Entitlement. A copy of the
certificate presented by the veteran to the University of Kentucky will _
constitute authority for that institution to register that veteran under
provisions of the act. i
In the absence of a Certificate of Eligibility and Entitlement, either an ,
original or supplemental form, the veteran will be expected to make satis-
factory arrangements with the University Comptroller regarding payment Q
of all charges.
