Poor Work in English. Any instructor who finds the written work of
_ Q any student seriously defective in its English is expected to report the case,
` together with specimen papers, to a committee consisting of the dean of V
the student’s college and the Head of the Department of English, who shall
have power to require additional work in composition without credit.
Foreign Languages. No student whose native language is other than `
English, and who has had formal instruction in schools of his own country,  f
may be permitted totake elementary, intermediate, or conversation courses  `
in that language.  
Unsatisfactory Scholarship and Attendance. A student who is doing  
unsatisfactory work, or who is irregular in attendance, is reported to the  `
dean of the college in which he is registered. Such a student is under the
special supervision of his dean. If after a suitable length of time it becomes
apparent that no improvement is being made, the student may be dropped .
from the course, on recommendation of the dean to the Registrar. I
Repeated Failures. The head of a department may refuse to allow a  ·
student to register in a course for a third time.
Classification. A student in any college except Law shall be classified ”
as a sophomore, junior, or senior, when he has within 10 credits of the
normal requirement and a standing of 1.0. However, no student may be  2
classified as a sophomore until he has had college residence of at least two _
semesters nor as a junior until he has had college residence of at least  _
three semesters.
A Law student is classified as a second year student when he has com-  
` pleted 24 or more credits and as a third year student when he has completed `
50 or more credits. He shall not, however, be classified as a second year
student until he has been in residence at least two semesters, nor as a third  I
year student until he has been in residence at least three semesters. ·
Classification of Transfer Students. A student who transfers to the  ‘
University as a junior and ranks in the lowest quarter on the entrance j
tests will be clawified as a junior conditionally. The continuance of junior _
classification will depend on the student’s making a standing of 1.0, o  ·
more, on his first semesters work.  
Special Examinations. A student regularly enrolled in the University A
may be given a special examination for credit, provided the request for `
the examination is approved by the Registrar, the dean of the college, and *
the head of the department concerned. Application should be made in  ·
writing to the Registrar. A student who visits a class as an auditor is not
allowed an examination for credit.  ~
