I ommendations for this course will be limited to those students who have 1
manifested special interest and demonstrated ability during the elemen- 4
tary course, and who desire to pursue the course to completion, with a view
to qualifying for a commission in the Officers’ Reserve Corps of the army.
An advanced course ROTC enrollee, provided he makes an over-all standing
in the University of 1.5 and shows special aptitudes in Military training
may be designated a Distinguished Military Graduate and receive a com- t
mission in the Regular Army or Air Force. I

MUSIC* (
The aim of this department is to develop a high standard of profes- ;
sional and vocational leadership for the state of Kentucky as well as to {
provide opportunities for cultural experiences in music for the university
student. 3
A student who desires to major in music may work toward the Bache- C
lor of Music degree or the Bachelor of Arts degree. Any student in the
University who has the necessary prerequisites may, and is encouraged to,
elect courses and performing organizations in the department. There are
A courses with no prerequisites.
The sequence of courses for the Bachelor of Music degree represents D
an intensive study of music designed for those who plan to be professional E
musicians or school music teachers. It presumes a reasonable degree of tj
musical knowledge and proficiency on the pre-college level.
. The Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music is designed as a
cultural degree with a music emphasis for those who do not intend to be
professional musicians or to teach school music.

Departmental Facilities Il
The University provides one of the most modern and adequately
equipped Fine Arts buildings in the South. The music facilities include ‘
well lighted, sound proofed, air conditioned classrooms, rehearsal halls,
teaching studios, listening cubicles, a departmental library and 44 practice ¤·
rooms including 4 two-manual practice pipe organs. In the building there
are two auditoriums seating approximately 500 and 120 each. Radio, re-
cording and broadcasting facilities are available for instructional pur-
poses and performances.

The department offers a limited number of tuition scholarships. Ap- A
