1. Men students with a physical fitness index (P. F. I.) below 100 in
- will be assigned to Weightlifting and Conditioning (P. E. 29) DE
classes the subsequent semester or semesters to improve their
P. F. I. until they reach the norm for Kentucky men.
2. Women students ranked in the lower levels of the posture test
will be assigned to Adapted Physical Education (P. E. 2) the sub- pr
sequent semester or semesters until they reach a level of good Ok
body mechanics satisfactory to the Department.
3. Those students (men and women) who failed in the sports
knowledge and performance tests given in P. E. 1 will be required
to enroll in the sports classes (P. E. 14 to 40) the subsequent
semesters until they have corrected these deficiencies. Men stu-
dents are required to become proficient in one team sport, one
indoor individual recreational sport, and one outdoor individual
recreational sport. Women students are required to learn one in-
dividual sport, one team sport, and some form of the dance.

Note.-—-A student may enroll in only one sports course (P. E. 4 to 40)
per semester until the physical education requirements have been fulfilled.
The required or service physical education program consists of specific
courses of instruction for men and women students which are designed to:
(1) determine the degree of physical fitness of the individual, (2) provide
the student with a means of regulated and supervised physical exercise,
(3) teach the student activities which may serve as a recreational pursuit
_ during leisure time, and (4) develop a sane and intelligent attitude toward  
the need for and benefits of well-regulated physical activity. After a student Eng
has fulfilled these requirements he is encouraged to enroll in advanced  
sport classes for which he will receive one hour of credit for each three- cm
hour course successfully completed. The number of hours acceptable is
regulated by the Dean of each College.
A standard uniform is required of all students. The cost of this ranges `
from $5.00 to $12.00. A locker fee of $2.00 per semester is charged each ‘ ph)
student which includes towel service, soap, and locker rental. Padlocks may
be rented for 25 cents per semester.

A second phase of the Department’s program is its intramural sports yn
for men and women students and the Women’s Athletic Association f0f BR;
women students. Through the intramural and W. A. A. programs and such iF¤
organizationsas the U. K. Troupers and Tau Sigma (Mode1·n Dance)
numerous activities are sponsored which provide opportunity for all stu- —
dents to participate in competitive sports and recreational activities. mm
Professional Physical Education
The third phase is the Teacher Education Program which provides op-
portunity for students to prepare to teach physicafeducation, coach athletic gg
teams, and to train for leadership in recreation and camping. V Soci
