KENTUCKY RADIO, TELEVISION NETWORKS RANK WITH BEST IN NATION
Kentucky basketball has captured the imagination of fans throughout the country for years and the UK Radio Network deserves a large share of credit for popularizing Wildcat basketball into the far reaches of the East, Midwest and South.
Synonymous with the Wildcats is sportscastcr Cawood Ledford, Sports Director of WHAS-Radio-TV, Louisville, who enters his ninth year with the network and 22nd year of covering Kentucky.
Assisting Ledford is Ralph Hacker, station manager of WVLK Radio in Lexington, who enters his second year as color commentator for the network after having covered the Wildcats for nine years. Together, this broadcasting learn brings all the excitement and color of UK basketball, both on and oil the court, lo a large radio audience.
Co-originating stations for the Lexington based firm of Jim Host and Associates, Inc., which owns broadcast rights to the network, are WHAS (840kc) and WVLK (590kc). Now entering its second year of a three-year contract, the Host linn has built up the network from 27 stations to a record total of 59 stations, one of the nation's largest collegiate basketball networks.
The L'K Television Network enters its sixth year with WAVE-TV of Louisville as the Coordinating Co-Bidder with WKYT-TV of Lexington and WFIE-TV of Evansville, Ind.
The Network, which handles delayed telecasts of Wildcat games in Memorial Coliseum and Freedom Hall in Louisville, has expanded lo a three-state network this year with the addition of WOWK-TV and WSAZ-TV in Huntington. W. Va.
Games in the University of Kentucky Invitational Tournament will be telecast live if both sessions arc sellouts: otherwise, it will be on a delayed basis.
Tipoff time for regular season games is 11:30 pjn., EST.
UKIT tipoff is approximately 9:00 p.m. Dec. 19, and the same time Dec. 20 if UK wins their first game. A loss would put them in the consolation game at 7:00 p.m.
