WITH THE LORD

Mrs. Ida Rosene was summoned to her heavenly rest
last Wednesday morning, Jan. 17th, after a two month
illness. She was born May 8, 1871 in Skona, Sweden and
came to Rockford in 1890. While in England she was mar—
ried to Peter Rosene on June 24, 1890. When able, Mrs.
Rosene attended the services of our church and was a
member of the Dorcas Society. She is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Esther Hanson and Mrs. Clarence Olson,
and one son, Edgar Rosene, all of Rockfsrd. Mr. Rosene
preceded his wife in death, having passed away in 1936.
May God‘s comfort be with those who are bereaved.

 CONCERNING THE WEATHER.

J. R. Lloyd of the Chicago weather bureau
states that this January has had only five equals
for general meanness and uncertainty of temper,
since the Weather bureau was organized. The
most changeable January ever recorded was that
of five years ago.

One thing is certain, no one can complain
of the skating. Old settlers like to tell of past
years when there was skating on the Rock for
long periods but no one has produced any record
of such good skating all over town. Every
Lime the ice begins to get rough so the old folks

can get out along comes a. thaw and polishes up
the surface “orthy of a clmmpionship match.
This must be just another gentle hint that this
IS a World of youth and for youth. No one over
60 seems to appreciate the sledding in spite of
all the joys of Winter they recall from other

days. Even very capable motorists have been
heard to remark that enough of anything is
sufficient

There‘s not even much satisfaction in praying
for a competent thaw, especially for those in dis-
t"icts subject to floods. The only thing we can

1

do is to use such wisdom as we possess and re-
member at all times that the other fellow, afoot

or awheel, hasn’t any more control than we lave.
Iivyond that we will have to let nature figure the
thing outvgfofiflbettcr or worse. Next July we will
90er about-the heat;
