TO THE WOVEN ETPLOYZS IN YOUR OFFICE:
It has cone to our attention that perhaps the story
of the Katherine Legée Memorial has not been told to the women em~
ployes at the various Company branches and works' offices, and this
letter is written with the thought that many or these employes cone
to Chicago occasionally and willwish to visit the Memorial.
The Katherine Legpe Memorial, established in IQEM by
Nr. Alexander Legae in memory of his wife for the use of the women
employes of the International Harvester Conoany and its subsidiaries,
conprises a wooded tract about IS miles southwest of Chicejo and two
miles south of Hinsdale, Illinois, SwimminH, tennis, hiking, bridge
parties and an occasional dance afford year-round activities. The
Memorial is easily accessible by automobile and by Chicago, Burlingr
ton & Quincy suburban trains rron Chicago to Hinsdale. The round
trip fare is as cents and the trains are net by the Memorial busi
The clubhouse, with a resident host and hostess, is
the central gathering place and the scene of many gay parti€S. AT·
rangeqents nay ee made for seals at the very nominal charge of YO
cents for dinner and 25 cents for breakfast. Mixed parties are held
occasionally, and the girls may invite wen guests for dinner at
stated tinest
The original Leg e cottage and the HcCormick Hemorial
cottage provide sleeping quarters and have combined accommodations
for firty girls. Each cottage is equipped with a kitchen where meals
may be prepared if desired. There is an overnight charge of 25 cents
for the first night and I5 cents nightly thereafter.
The latest addition to the Memorial is the Convalcs-
cent cottage, built especially for Harvester employes, both men and
· women, or members of their families who are in need of rest and quiet.
The two bedrooms with connecting bath, large Iiving~room, kitchen
and dinette, and its isolation from the other buildings mahe the
cottage an ideal place for the purpose. An invalid or convalescent
must have some one in attendance, of course, as the facilities of
the clubhouse do not provide for such cases.
here words cannot describe the Memoriel’s many at-
tractions, but the enclosed booklet, published at the time the
McCormick Memorial cottage was dedicated, indicates the character
of the buildings, all of vhich are in keeping with their beautifully
landscaped setting.
All Harvester women employes are cordially invited
to visit the Nemorial. Arran enents may be made in advance by
writing to Katherine Legye Henorisl, County Line Road, Hinsdale,
Illinois, br by telephone, Hinsdale IMEE.
