Biography / History
Businessman. Slaughter was apparently in the rope manufacturing business. He married a women named Eliza on November 16th sometime in the 1830's.
Scope and Content
This volume, which originated in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, contains receipts, recipes and newspaper clippings collected by Gabriel Stout Slaughter. The clippings include the text of Millard Filmore's campaign speech at Albany, N.Y. in [1856], remedies for cholera and rattlesnake bites, the formula for making soda ash soap, and tips on how to build a poultry house. The receipts are related to rope manufacturing.
