Popular publications offer TTj variety of information

A magazine is a popular form of reading material among college students for several reasons. Most magazines are usually quick reading, and summarize a complex subject or present an in-depth discussion of a subject. Often a series of articles on related topics is presented.
Many students depended on magazines to keep up with world and national news. News magazines such as Time and Newsweek provided a much-needed summary and analysis of the major news stories for students without access to a TV set or daily newspaper.
Special student discount rates enabled students to purchase magazines at a fraction of the normal subscription rates and encouraged them to read a wide variety of magazines. College students mostly read popular entertainment magazines or magazines related to their major or hobbies.
Students subscribed to such publications as Psychology Today, Practicing Veterinarian, Advertising Age, National Geographic, Science Digest, Education Today, and American Science.
Hobby magazines included Popular Photography, Hot
Rod, Guns, Coinage, Needlecraft, and Popular Mechanics.
Many students who subscribe to magazines are voracious readers one student claimed, "I read them all." Others said magazines gave them "greater insight into current events and provided conversation topics".
A small poll revealed coeds favored Mademoiselle, Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal, and Women's Circle.
Males preferred National Lampoon, Playboy, and Rolling Stone.
After a magazine has been read, other uses are often found for it. A fairly innovative use was to cover dorm ceilings with pictures and quotes. Magazines such as Ladies Home Journal are kept for recipes, patterns, and "how-to-do-it" articles. One music lover suggested magazines could be put to good use "under stereo speakers so they won't get scratched." Some students saved magazines merely as a catalogue of factual information.
Whatever the reason, college students are an unusually receptive audience for the various kinds of articles and information magazines offer, pff*
