Handwritten on verso, "Class in Montessori taught by Miss Belle McCubbing at Picadome rural school near Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky. The Superintendent, Mrs. Nannie G. Faulconer adopted for motto when she went into office many years ago the following expression, 'Progress, the onward stride of God.' by Hugo." (Two copies)
