     14. Displaced Geriiian Scholars.

     President McVey presented the correspondence of Dean P. P.
Boyd with Dr. R. G. D. Richardson of Brown University in regard
to making arrangements wmith the Emergency Commission in aid of
Displaced German Scholars.   The letter referu In particular to
Dr. Hans Lewy, and it is proposed that he be placed in the Uni-
versity for a period of two years, his salary to be taken care of
by the Emergency Commission above named.    The placing of Doctor
Lewy in the Mathematics Department of the University of Kentucky
by the plan proposed is dependent upon the University giving
some assurance of his continuance as an employee of the University
after the expiration of the two years, the University after that
time to take care of payment of his salary.    On motion and second
the matter was referred to President McVey with power to act.

     15. Bureau of Engineering Service and Research.

     President McVey presented a report made to him of the proposed
establishment of a Bureau of' Engineering Service and Research. He
stated at some length the plan as outlined in Acting Dean Terrell's
report.   After considerable discussion of the advisability of es-
tablishing the Bureau, it was decided that the matter be passed
for the present.


     16. Eccles Collection.

     President MoVey presented a letter from Mrs. S. N. Arnold,
Allentown House, 137 East Fifty-seventh Street, New York, N. Y.,
in which she outlined the proposition of placing with the Uziver-
sity at art collection of Dr. Robert Kelley, the collection to be
left on a rental basis to be cared for by friends in New York
pending the raising of' funds to purchase the collection for the
use and benefit of the University.

     After due consideration of the proposition, together with dis-
cussion of the proper place to house and care for the collection,
it was decided that there is no available place in which it may be
properly cared for and exhibited, and, due to those facts, it is
impossible at this time to accept the proposal outlined by Mtrs.
Arnold,   At the same time, members of the Board expressed their
appreciation of the offer and authorized President McVey to write
to MArs. Arnold, stating their inability to accept the offer, ex-
plaining conditions at the University that make the acceptance in-
advisable and expressing the sincere appreciation and thanks of
members of the Board for the offer.
