 PREFACE

The discovery of new informational materials about Kentucky’s past
and present is endless. Therefore, the selection of the most appropriate
materials for school use is an unending task. We have attempted in this
publication to provide the school librarian or teacher with a bibliography of
Kentucky source material including both books and non-book materials.

In one sense this bulletin is a creation by the school librarians of
Kentucky. Their many requests for an updated reprint of this Kentucky
bibliography influenced the publication of this bulletin. Hopefully, both
librarian and teacher will find the information contained in ns'de Kentucky
valuable and thus make it a worthwhile publication.

We also felt that a reprint of this bibliography would serve as a

contribution by the department to Kentucky’s Bicentennial Celebration.

Lyman V. Ginger
Superintendent of Public Instruction

Outstanding Kentuckians

This is the state flag and seal portraying the embrace of a
frontiersman with a statesman. In 7792, as the 75th state to enter the
Union, Kentucky was the western frontier of the Nation. Kentucky
took as its motto "United We Stand, Divided We Fall.”

BIBLIOGRAPHY OF BOOKS AND NON—BOOK MATERIALS

This bibliography of Kentucky Books and Non—Book materials is a
selective list which emphasizes books and non-book materials useful in school
libraries. It has been compiled for those who are interested in a further study
of Kentucky and as a buying guide for librarians and teachers.

BOOKS IN PRINT

and also in shelf-listing. The suggested classification number is given preceding
the information about each book. The symbols at the extreme right of the
page indicate the grade level for which the material is particularly useful. P.
