Definite dates for initiations

of the
university, if the present plans of
Dean Melcher materialize.
In the
past considerable confusion has arisen
over this question and it is hoped by
this conference to do away with this
confusion in the future.
Dean Melcher suggests Jhat no initiations be held until 30 days after the
begjnning of each semester. If this
plan is carried out fraternity initiations will be held in March and Octoi
ber of each year and no initiationsT.will
be) held at the close of the"1 second
semester. In this case fraternity
pledges who fail to make a standing
of one the first semester cannot be
initiated until the following fall if
they make si standing, jthe, second
semester; Previously, the registrar's
office has been so rushed at the close
of .school the second semester that
spnie mistakes have been made, and
the general condition far from satisfactory, according vto Dean Mlcher.
At the same time that fraternities
ask for grades an order to hold their
initiations, they will be asked to sub- -

sophAkkie and I being
omores know we know more about
how to run a college and why than
President McVey and all the deans
so that's why we're staying in our
sorority house this year as the girls
need our superabundance of that unusual combination, beauty and brains,
(incidently, our house is on a nice lil'
dark street and we have two huge
shade trees in the yard. Of course,
the house rules call for porch lights
to be turned on at six sharp. Naturally or unnaturally, they always will
be. Come and see.
After Akkie and I recovered from
our knpek down and drag out over
where to put the dressing table (it
would really have put Dmpsey and
Tunney to shame, they oughta' take
lessons from us) we decided that,
having done everything important
we had to do, we'd go over and register. Well, we got over on the campus
about 10 o'clock and a line greeted
our eyes which reached to Limestone.
However, because of our popularity
and importance we just walked to the
front and announced that we wanted
to register for the semester. Those
in charge recognized us and were so
overjoyed that we had decided to cast

our lot again at this institution and
lend it the right kind of prestige
that they just handed us all the cards
and "materials and made room for us
so we could write out all about our
family skeletons. After telling Dean
Boyd what classes we wished to
wander, in, we stood on the side line
and gave the natives a treat. Akkie
was dressed up in her latest and just
a greetin' every one, even her worst
enemies just like she adored' them.
She even tried to revamp, her "I
Maka Fire" (you know, she had his
pin ,for awhile last spring) but he
didh'i take kindly to it as a pretty
blonde freshman was attracting all
his attention. These freshman girls!
They certainly are drawbacks to us
upper classmen in certain ways.

In the growth of the Buffalo Forge
Company, Mr. Went has been assist-e- r
for; many years by graduates of the
Engineering College of the university
and he deems that much of the success
of the company is due to the arduous
work of these men. To show his
appreciation for the brilliant work
done, by the Kentucky graduates and
toperpetuate the. art of making fine
blacksmith equipment, Mr. Wente offered to give the University of Kentucky """30,000 of equipment if it
would build a suitable building in
which to place it.
That offer was made four years
ago. Atfthat time it was impossible
to 'cohstruct Ihtf Building. Last summer the board voted to accept Mr.
Wente's offer and work on the shop
was immediately begun. Dean Ander
son estimates that, the building, now
being constructed on the campus adjoining the electrical shops, will cost

but when it;is com

it the .College of Engineering will
have taken another mighty forward
step.
