Q Two samples of soil from the land recently purchased by the L
Q; A Lexington 'Waterworks Company, formerly the Preston property, I
{Q on the Richmond turnpike, about 2% miles nearly southeast of f _
;;_ V Lexington. This land is situated, geologically, upon an outlier i
, - of the Cincinnatian (Hudson) formation, giving a narrow strip I
l A of comparatively poor land which crosses the county running p
1 nearly northeast and southwest. It was formerly known as
_ "the beech ridge" from the prevalence of beeches, but these ?
trees have now entirely disappeared. The soil of this strip,
‘· though of fair quality, compares very unfavorably with the .
_ superior bluegrass lands composing the greater part of Fayette _
, County. The samples were sent by Alex. Pearson, President of _· _
· , the Water Company, in March, IQO4. 2
