‘ This office was established at Louisville in 1860. In 1901 Kentucky was
“ divided into two judicial districts with Louisville as headquarters for the
western district, Corresponding changes were undergone by this office.
‘ Previous to 1955 when it was moved to its present location, it was situated
in the old Post Office and Customs House, Fourth and Chestnut Streets. Some
·· of the records prior to 195h were lost or destroyed wren.woved, · Some
· · doekets and miscellaneous papers were damaged by the January 1957 flood of
the Ohio River, and were burned upon the authorization from the Attorney
· General. Only records which are requested at designated intervals are sent
_ to Washington, Others remain in the custody of the Marshal and when they
become inactive are placed in the basement for safe Looping.
