SHARING OPINIONS AND DECISIONS IN LIBRARY MANAGEMENT
The Staff Development Committee is sponsoring workshops entitled "Sharing
Opinions and Decisions in Library Management-—a Group Consensus Exercise,"
a portion of which will include the topic "How to Conduct a Committee
Meeting," on Thursday, October 18th, at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM in the Gallery.
Priscilla Gotsick from Morehead State University will conduct the workshops.

PORTRAITS AND DREAMS
This photography exhibit by children from Letcher County, will open Sunday.
October 14 in King Library South. Wendy Ewald, from Appalshop,has worked
. in the Cowan, Campbell's Branch and Kingdom Come elementary schools for
several years as Artist in the School sponsored by the Kentucky Arts Com-
mission. The result of this work is an outstanding exhibit of photographs
and essays by fifth through eighth graders. The exhibit opened at the
International Center for Photography in New York City last May and next
spring it will be touring with the Smithsonian. The opening and reception
at UK will be Sunday October 14 from 3-5 PM. Please join us and meet the
children who are coming with family and friends for the afternoon. Guests
and children are welcome too!
The exhibit, which will run through November 18th, is sponsored by the
Appalachian Center, the University of Kentucky Libraries in cooperation
with Appalshop. 4

A MOST EXTRAORDINARY COUNTRY P
This is the name of an exhibition of Kentucky cartography being held October 1-
November 11, 1979 at the Old Capitol Galleries, Frankfort, Kentucky. It is sponsored
by the Kentucky Historical Society. Nine of the maps exhibited are on loan from
1 Special Collections, M.I.K. Library.
Among those receiving special thanks for their assistance were Claire McCann of
Special Collections and Dr. Thomas Clark, UK professor emeritus of history and dean
p of Kentucky historians.
* The exhibit coincides with the publication of Dr. C1ark's Historic Maps of Kentucky
published by the University Press of Kentucky, October 5. This consists of ten
beautifully printed facsimile maps (seven from Special Collections, M.I.K.)
and an accompanying book on maps published from the third quarter of the eighteenth
century through the Civil War showing the emergence of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky and the unfolding art of American cartography,
