K trict elect a director to represent the drainage district on the
board of drainage commissioners. The elections are held in the
courthouse and are presided over by the county judge. The board

The Union County agricultural agent is employed under pro-
vision of acts of Congress passed in 1914, 1928, and 1930 for the ~
carrying on of the co-operative extension work in agriculture,
and the employment of extension agents. His work consists of
giving instructions and practical field demonstrations in agri-
culture. It is carried on in such manner as is mutually agreed U
upon by the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States and
the Agricultural College of the University of Kentucky.
A home demonstration agent serves Union County under the
same act that authorizes the county agricultural agent. The
powers and duties of the home demonstration agent, like those
. of the county agricultural agent, depend upon agreements and
regulations made by the United States Secretary of Agriculture,
_ the trustees of the University of Kentucky, and the fiscal court. K
The fiscal court and county board of education may use such , ·
sums of money out of their annual funds as in their judgment A
are necessary for carrying on this work.
