It was named after Lexington, Massachusetts, where the first battle of the Revolutionary War had just taken place. Not until 1779, however, did the first settlers, led by Col. Robert Patterson, arrive. They built a stockade, and in the spring of 1781 laid out Main Street. They cleared and planted land, and in 1781 elected their first Board of Trustees. The first meeting of the Trustees took place on Mar. 26, 1781.Minute books 2 and 3 are labeled incorrectly on the microfilm, although the books themselves are in correct chronological order. This is a copy on microfilm of early records of the Lexington, Ky. Board of Trustees. Reel 1 contains 3 volumes of minutes, dating from 1781- 1830 inclusively. Reel 2 contains 3 volumes of minutes, covering 1830-1836, 1840-1843, and 1851-1854, respectively; volumes 5, 7 and 8 are missing. The minutes detail information on lots bought, sold, and rented; the election of officers; town taxes and tithes; improvements made in the town; and the passing of laws and ordinances. Reel 3 contains an incomplete deed book dating from 1782 to 1806. Record Book 1 is also available in the library as a photographic reproduction in two bound volumes (49W6).Chronological arrangement.Lexington (Ky.).--Board of Trustees.Public records--Kentucky--Lexington.Lexington (Ky.)--Politics and government.Lexington (Ky.)--Genealogy.Deeds.MinutesLexington, Kentucky Board of Trustees records, 1782-1854
