Biography / History
The Business and Professional Women's Club of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) was founded in 1919 by Lena Madesin Phillips of Kentucky. The club focused on the concerns of working women and became the first organization to do so. Throughout the 1930s the club focused on lobbying against legislation and laws designed to deny jobs to married women.
