months of summer.
Already more Wildcats than last year have indicated they will stay in Lexington to get in better shape. That's good news to Kentucky fans, especially with this offensive line being younger and weaker than the previous bunch.
You can be sure of one thing their one-to-two hour a day (Monday-Friday) workouts at Shively Center will not be a thing of leisure. Strength coach Pat Etcheberry, who's been known to lift a weight or two in his time, will see to that.
"We are young and that's a factor to why we're not as strong," said Sheridan. "But, after this summer we may come back as strong as last year's team.
"Coach Etcheberry has already said that he has taken the offensive line under his wing and will work with them personally."
Hmmmmm.

Saturday, Sept. 13. The cable network has already announced that its season opener will feature Miami. Fla., at South Carolina on August 30. ESPN also has plans on showing Maryland at Pittsburgh on Monday Sept. 1. . Two SEC head basketball coaches have withdrawn their names out of consideration for possible opportunities at Minnesota and Western Kentucky. Tennessee coach Don DeVoe pulled his name out of contention at Minnesota before the Gophers announced the hiring of Western Kentucky head coach Clem Haskins. Sonny Smith said he will remain on the plains at Auburn, thus is not a candidate to replace Haskins at WKU. . .Speaking of Auburn, head football coach Pat Dye had some remarks following the recent dismissal of running back Bo Jackson from the Tiger baseball squad. Jackson lost his eligibility due to pro football's Tampa Bay paying for his airfare in order to take a physical examination. "It was a honest mistake," said Dye. "But I certainly don't think this will take away from the contributions he has made to Auburn University and he has meant to the state of Alabama". . .Florida has upgraded the status of basketball assistant Monte Towe to associate coach. Towe has been an assistant under Norm Sloan since 1980. He is best remembered as Sloan's starting point guard on the 1974 NCAA championship team at North Carolina State.

dianapolis, played for Everett Case, a legend, at North Carolina State. Joan Sloan is also from Indianapolis.
Towe grew up in Converse, Ind., and then went to State at Sloan's behest.
That automatically gives them a similar background. Now, Towe is very happy with his job. Towe noted, "I always thought, while playing, that I hoped I'd have the opportunity to come back, work with him at North Carolina State. I had a couple of things to do, but when I found out he was going to Florida, I told him I wanted to go. I had confidence and faith in him."
Towe Enjoys Gatorland; Sees Bright Future For UF
For Towe, the trip to Gatorland was twofold. He is getting to coach, and he has a "chance to build a program."
Towe's "couple of things to do" included playing two years in Denver, with the Nuggets and UK great Dan Issel in both the ABA and the NBA.
Towe also met his wife, Linda, in Denver, but now says, "I enjoy coaching, and I enjoy Florida. I'll probably stay as long as they'll have me."
Why would Towe want to leave now? Florida played so well in the NIT last month. They were in play longer than any other SEC team except Final Four participant Louisiana State. They won 19 games without a center. All the important players are back. Only little-used 6-11 Mark Saso was a senior.
Now, coming in next season is 7-1 Dwayne Schintzius, who has been called by one recruiting service operator "the most important recruit in Florida history."
Towe was already thinking about 1986-87 at the SEC tourney.
He said one of the "biggest reasons he (Schintzius) came to Florida is because of Sloan. He's an expert on teaching taller players."
With the likes of Drew Moten, Vernon Maxwell, Ronnie Montgomery, Joe and Pat Lawrence, and Ken McClary returning to go with the big frosh, Towe and the Florida fans expect better things ahead.
The assistant said of the prized recruit, "He has a tremendous future. He is a good athlete, with good hands. He just needs strength. We project him being one of the best in the country, but who knows how soon. We do expect him to contribute the first year."
If Florida wins either a regular season crown or a tourney title anytime soon, then Sloan will have done what no other Gator coach has ever done.
The talent seems to be gathering.
Perhaps the loyalty, the dedication, have been there for a long, long, time.
