*Dirk Minniefield and Derrick Hord walked away with Co-MVP honors at the Wildcats' annual awards banquet sponsored by the Committee of 101. Hord was the team's leading scorer in the 1981-82 season with a 16.3 per game average. Minniefield shared the award for the second consecutive season. He and Sam Bowie were named Co-MVP's as sophomores. Other award winners include Chuck Verderber, Chandler Trophy, Frank Seale Award, Harry C. Lancaster Award and K-Men's Scholastic Award; Jim Master, Joe B. Hall Trophy; Melvin Turpin, First Security Bank Award; and Troy McKinley, Jaycees Freshman Leadership Award. Minniefield also won the Bluegrass Kiwanis 110percenter Award, Kentucky Central Insurance Company
Trophy, Claude Sullivan Memorial Award, and the Central Kentucky News Award.
?The Kentucky women's track team dominated action in the first Kentucky Open Track Meet held at the Shively Sports Center track. The Lady Kats swept 12 of the 16 events. Pat McCulla captured the discus title for the UK men and Greg Hoffman won the pole vault. McKay Mattingly of UK won the 1,500 meter.
*The UK Bat Cats won only two of five contests  losing two of three to Georgia, ousted by Eastern Kentucky and defeating Georgia Tech.
?Kentucky football coach Jerry Claiborne said he was pleased with the running of Pete Venable and Terry Henry, along with the improved defense, as the Kentucky football team completed its second week of spring football
practice ending with its second scrimmage.

?Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall was named the Kellog Coach of the Year and picked up his award in Minneapolis, Minn. Hall wrapped up a fine recruiting year by adding Clarence Tillman and Chuck Verderber.
Tillman is a 6-foot-7 player from West Philly and Verderber is out of Lincoln, Illinois.
?Jack Givens and Rick Robey were selected Co-Most Valuable Players of the Kentucky team. The two also shared the Most Outstanding Senior Award. The other Kentucky players were also honored in the annual basketball banquet held by the Committee of 101.
Claiborne Signs NY Quarterback
Paul Winter, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound all-conference quarterback-defensive back from Washingtonville High School in Newburgh, NY, has signed a letter of intent with the University of Kentucky, Wildcat football coach Jerry Claiborne announced (April 14).
