Members, Board of Trustees:

AEMENT OF UNIVERSITY CODE OF STUDENT CONDUCT

Recommendation: that the Board of Trustees approve the attached
revisions of the University Code of Student Conduct and further, that
the Board of Trustees, in addition to its other non-discrimination
policies, affirm that the University should not discriminate against
any student, faculty or staff member because of sexual orientation.

Background: The Student Code Committee, a standing committee of the
Board of Trustees, has recommended to the President the proposed
changes to the Code of Student Conduct. The recommended revision to
Section 1.21, Disciplinary Offenses, broadens the scope of the offense
and makes it compatible with state statutes. The revision to Section
2.1, Right of Admission and Access, adds sexual orientation to the
provisions against discrimination and substitutes the term disability
rather than handicap. This action also affirms that the University
should not discriminate against students, faculty, or staff members
because of sexual orientation.
