Dear North: 7 It has been a disappointment to me that I have not been able to secure prompt attention on the part of the Committee on Admissions of the Century Association for certain candidates, including of course your- self, in whose candidacy I had a personal interest. It is the fact (as I had , I think, reported some months back to my group of candidates) that the resident member- ship list was actually full and that new members could come in only as the older men passed. This is still the case. At the monthly meeting in December one vacancy had occurred and one new member was elected. I dare not hold out expectation of an early election for yourself. The candidacy of a business man always has difficulty as compared with that of artists, authors, scientists, etc. You may fairly claim to represent literature as well as business, which is precisely my own case, but even that cannot entirely obliterate the fact that you and I try to make money by selling things. .I amv with cordial regards, a: Ira m
