The Central Kentucky Concert and Lecture Association was formed in October, 1950 through the merger of two Lexington, Ky. civic organizations, the Central Kentucky Community Concert Association, founded in 1932, and the Lexington Public Forum, founded in 1935. Since its inception, the Association has generally presented four lectures and eight concerts each year on a subscription basis.
This collection consists of the records of the Central Kentucky Concert and Lecture Association and those of the two bodies which preceded it, along with numerous newspaper clippings documenting Association-sponsored events. It includes correspondence, minutes of meetings, financial statements, audit reports and other records detailing Association administrative decisions and history. The collection provides information on musical and other cultural activities in the Lexington, Ky. area over a 45-year period, and particularly the role of civic organizations and their members in promoting those activities. Materials for the period 1977-1980 have been received but not yet processed.
