The Ripy family has owned several distilleries in Anderson County since 1868, at one time operating the largest sour mash distillery in the world at Tyron, Kentucky (near Lawrenceburg). The family eventually sold their interests to J.T.S. Brown's Sons Company. Ernest Ripy, Jr. remained with the plant, in order to run the Tyron distillery. These are microfilmed copies of Ripy family papers. The papers contain a biographical sketch of Thomas B. Ripy, information on the procedure used to make whiskey, tariff rates used for distilleries in various Kentucky counties, an Internal Revenue Service map of Kentucky and Tennessee, and a scrapbook of news clippings and published poems. The scrapbook, which was compiled by Robert Eugene Johnson, consists of telegrams and clippings concerning social events in Anderson County, and dealings of the Lawrenceburg National Bank, of which some of the family members were officers. Some of the clippings are from the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL and from THE ANDERSON NEWS. Organized: ANDERSON NEWS articles and letters on Thomas B. Ripy; KENTUCKY WHISKEY TARIFF; Map; Scrapbook.
