WORMs.—The green, looping worm (Autogmguhcz
bmsslcaz) is often very destructive to celery as it is also to
cabbage. The celery worm (Pctpillo aster-vQas)” is common
- at times. Spray with hellebore when plants are young,
using two tablespoonfuls in a wooden bucket of water.
A Apply Bordeaux mixture later, both for the rust and as a V
( as a deterrent against the worms. \
. ` RUST.—Spray at least three times with Bordeaux mix-
` ture, if plants are grown in the sun. The disease is much
less troublesome on celery grown under slat shelters. These
are only practicable, however, during dry sunny weather, t
and should be so constructed that the tops can be removed
at other times. _ ‘

. SLUG.—Spray as soon as the fruit is set and the leaves (
fully expanded, with arsenate of lead, 2.5 pounds in fifty

pounds of bluestone, 4 pounds of lime, 50 gallons of water),
the first time as soon as the leaves are fully expanded, the
second time in midsummer, about August 1. A
