James C. Cantrill was born in Georgetown, Ky, and received his education there at Georgetown College. He was active in organizing Kentucky tobacco growers from 1906 to 1923 and in 1908 was president of the American Society of Equity for Kentucky. He served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1897 to 1901 and in the Kentucky Senate from 1901 to 1905. He represented the 7th Kentucky District in the United States House of Representatives from 1909 until 1921. This is a group of three letters written by Cantrill to constituents in March of 1910, regarding the proposed Telepost Company bill.  Recipients of the letters were Judge John J. Riley, George S. Shanklin, and Mrs. Nannie P. Shankland, all of Lexington, Ky.
